Re-elect Dan Lipinski Congressman

Students at St. John of the Cross Parish School in Western Springs celebrated trees on Friday at an assembly they hosted in honor of Arbor Day.

The school's special guests were U.S. Rep. Dan Lipinski, D-3rd, of Western Springs, and his father, former U.S. Rep. Bill Lipinski.

Contest winners read their award-winning essays on the topic "What does Arbor Day mean to America?" The students were: Nancy Ruiz, eighth grade, Louis Pasteur Elementary School, in Chicago; Julia Veome, seventh grade, St. Francis Xavier School, in La Grange; Rachel Bielski, sixth grade, McClure Middle School, in Western Springs; Austin Carmody, fifth grade, St. John of the Cross Parish School, in Western Springs; and Yoonje Cho, fourth grade, Field Park Elementary School, in Western Springs. The contest winners took home American Eagle trophies for their winning efforts.

Following the assembly, the essay contest winners and the school's guests of honor planted a pear tree on the parkway along Wolf Road, between 51st Street and Courtland Circle, adjacent to the St. John of the Cross campus, at 5005 Wolf Road.,western-springs-arborday-050610-s1.article
