Berwyn Fire Department Gets New Equipment
September 17, 2010
Berwyn, IL — Berwyn's fire department was able to buy a new self-contained breathing apparatus with grant money through an Assistance to Firefighter's Grant.
Fire Chief Denis O'Halloran showed off the new equipment at a press conference with Mayor Robert Lovero on Sept. 17.
The $112,400 grant comes from the federal government via the Federal Emergency Management Agency. The City of Berwyn will contribute $28,100 toward the cost of the new equipment. The total cost is $140,500.
O'Halloran applied for the grant in March 2009.
Firefighters use the apparatus to help them breathe when they enter buildings where smoke or gasses could cause a threat of immediate death.
Lovero said Congressman Dan Lipinski D, 3rd District was instrumental in helping the city get the grant.
