Cyber Research Development Bill Passed; Dan Lipinski Comments

Along with bills to promote cyber information sharing and continuous monitoring, the House cleared another cyber bill Friday to increase education, research and development, National Journal reports.

The Cybersecurity Enhancement Act would authorize research, education and development of standards at the National Institute of Standards and Technology and the National Science Foundation.

Bill sponsors include Reps. Michael McCaul (R-Texas) and Dan Lipinski (D-Ill.), who said the bill would eliminate the shortfall of skilled cyber professionals.

The bill would also aid to develop the technologies needed to defend industry, infrastructure and the public, Lipinski said.

Senators will review a companion piece of legislation introduced by Robert Menendez (D-N.J.).

The House also reauthorized the Networking and Information Technology Research and Development program, which develops unclassified methods to complete computer network protection, on Friday in a voice vote.
