Rep. Dan Lipinski, D-Ill., has opened a local office in Orland Park's Frederick T. Owens Village Hall to assist constituents with Social Security, Medicare and veterans' benefits and to help arrange visits to Washington, D.C.

The space is across from Mayor Dan McLaughlin's office in the east wing of the main floor. It is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Appointments are unnecessary.

"I am committed to being accessible to all my constituents and providing top-notch constituent services," said Lipinski, who also maintains district offices in Chicago, Lockport and Oak Lawn.

The 3rd District congressman took over representing the part of Orland Park formerly represented by Judy Biggert, a Republican, after district boundaries were redefined as a result of the 2010 census.

Speaking last week during a ribbon-cutting ceremony, Lipinski said he tries to locate district offices close to local government offices but plans to supplement them with mobile locations and hours in other areas.

The Village Hall, at Ravinia Avenue and 143rd Street, is within walking distance of the Orland Park Public Library and Orland Township headquarters. It is a short drive to the Orland Park Police Department and Orland School District 135 administrative offices.

McLaughlin, who participated in the ceremony, recalled suggesting the Village Hall when Lipinski mentioned wanting to establish a presence in the Orland Park area but said, "I pretty much left it at that."

Lipinski's office "will make it very convenient for Orland Park residents who live in the 3rd Congressional District to stop in for information and help" and will increase Orland Park officials' access to their representative, McLaughlin said.

Lipinski is the third non-municipal presence in the Village Hall, joining the Illinois Department of Veterans Affairs and the Illinois secretary of state. The two state agencies do not pay rent because they service everyone in and around Orland Park. Lipinski's office will pay rent because its service is aimed at a smaller constituency, officials said.

"As an elected official who strives to be involved in the communities I represent, I am excited to have a new office in Orland Park's Village Hall," Lipinski said.

Lipinski is the son of former U.S. Rep. Bill Lipinski. Dan Lipinski was elected in 2004 to represent the 3rd District, which currently includes parts of Chicago, southwestern Cook County and northeastern Will County. He was born in Chicago and lives in Western Springs with his wife, Judy.
