End BNSF delays, U.S. Rep. Lipinski tells Metra
U.S. Rep Dan Lipinski (D-Il) is asking Metra to address nagging delays on the BNSF line and to provide additional service on the Heritage Corridor.
BNSF service lagged even before the brutal weather of the last two months, Lipinski said in a news release Monday.
“Many of my constituents believe Metra’s service along this line is slipping,” said Lipinski, the state’s most senior member of the U.S. House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee. “I urge [Metra] to take measurable steps to improve the reliability of this service.”
In addition, Lipinski said, Metra has only operated three round-trip trains per day on its Heritage Corridor since 1999, even though the population of Will County and southwest Cook served by the Heritage has boomed since then.
“Ridership on the Heritage Corridor has expanded by approximately 25 % over the past 10 years, with the potential for much greater ridership if additional service is added,” Lipinski said in the news release.
In the release, Lipinski said he sent a letter of congratulations to new Metra CEO Don Orseno asking that he address the BNSF and Heritage concerns.
Both lines serve constituents in the 3rd congressional district that Lipinski represents.
