U.S. Rep. Dan Lipinski, D - Western Springs, and U.S. Senator Mark Kirk, R - Illinois, headed to the village of Lyons on Monday to discuss a bipartisan bill authored by Lipinski and introduced in the U.S. Senate by Kirk that they hope will boost domestic manufacturing.

Lipinski and Kirk held the discussion at Atlas Tool & Die Works, Inc., 4633 S. Lawndale Avenue.

Lipinski's legislation, the National Strategic Plan for Manufacturing, was signed into law with the hope of boosting jobs for Americans. The bill requires that at least every four years, the president work with public and private stakeholders to produce and publish a plan to promote American manufacturing, according to information provided by Lipinski's office.

Additionally, the president's budget blueprint will require an explanation of how it promotes the most recent strategic plan.

Lipinski's bill passed the U.S. House three times in the last five years. Kirk introduced the bill in the U.S. Senate and it was signed into law by President Obama last week.
