Re-elect Dan Lipinski Congressman

Metra Adds Train to Heritage Corridor

Daily Southtown

Metra plans to add another afternoon departure to its Heritage Corridor line, starting March 14.

"The 2:45 p.m. departure from Union Station will expand weekday service on the line from six to seven trains, three inbound in the morning and four outbound in the afternoon/evening, giving downtown commuters more options to get home," according to a statement from Congressman Dan Lipinski (IL-3).

Lipinski said he has spent "many years and countless hours fighting to get Heritage Corridor riders more service," according to the statement.

Metra officials said the additional train required agreements from Canadian National, which owns the tracks and operates freight service on the line, in addition to Amtrak, which owns Chicago's Union Station.

"We couldn't be happier that we are able to offer this new service to our Heritage Corridor customers, who will now have a convenient option when they need to leave early for things like school and family functions," said Metra Executive Director Don Orseno in a statement.

The train will make stops at Summit, Willow Springs, Lemont and Lockport. It will arrive at the Joliet Union Station, which is it's final destination, at 3:50 p.m.
